The Mountain, The Mu Mu and The Moon

Monday, August 23, 2010

Today’s Vocabulary word: pozzy - house or home; place where one lives or hangs out.

Here is how the Mountain looked this morning when I woke up.

This is how it looked in the time it took for me to take a shower.

Today, I just needed to take a break. I was feeling tired and thought I should just catch up. I did some general housekeeping around the room and read and relaxed. After lunch, I took a walk down to the waterfront because I was feeling lucky and thought this just might be the day I would find my Caftan ( or Mu Mu as some of you like to call it). I returned to a shop I had visited earlier that was a fair trade shop. It means that unlike the rest of the merchants, who dicker like crazy, the price is the price but the women that make the goods get 50% of the selling price. That felt right to me and low and behold, wake the kids and call the neighbors…. I FOUND IT!!  YEAH!!!!
A new shipment had just been unpacked and there it was in all its splendor, my caftan. It had everything I wanted. The material was sumptuous, the color was perfect and there was the neatest design on the front. It looked like and African woman in a Picasso like representation. I was in heaven. Take a look.

I knew I would just feel it when it was right and boy did I feel it. Eat your heart out Hillary!!!  Now that the Caftan issue was settled, I continued around the waterfront until I came to a building called the wellness center.  It was a neat place that had all sorts of what we would call "natural" products.  Creams and lotions and candles, yada, yada, yada.  There was a young man who had a small area with a poster of the spine and all the nerves.  He had a table that looked like a smaller version of a massage table.  He asked me if I had back pain?  Duuuuuhhhhhh ( I thought).  Although it has been much better since the "exorcism" :)
He went on to explain that what he practiced was a branch of Chiropractics but without all the popping, twisting and crunching.  Hmmm, I 'm thinking.  He was sure he could help me (that's what they all say) but it only cost Rand 200 (about $28) so I thought, what the heck, let's give it a try.  It was developed in the UK and is known as Body Stress Relief.  Type that into a search engine and you can read all about it you are interested.  I didn't expect much so I knew I had little chance of being disappointed.
He did his thing and worked on me for about 45 minutes.  He kept apologizing for taking so long.  He said he could usually do everything in about 15 minutes but that I was, well, umm, how can I say this? (he was really searching here) so I helped him out and said, "I'm a mess, huh?"  As my son Chris (a licenced massage therapist) says, "A train wreck".  He agreed and laughed at the description.  When I got up, I was surprised by how relaxed I felt but I wasn't jumping to any conclusions.  I just walked about a bit and told him I felt better.  I paid the money and walked home.  I had decided I wasn't going to make any judgements until tomorrow.  The report on my miraculous recovery will be in tomorrows blog (if in fact it is a miraculous recovery).
When I got home, Bob was already there so we headed back to the Cape Malay food that we had the other night.

I got the Lamb Panang and Bob got some Fish Curry. They are cooked in little cast iron pots (Potjiekos meaning "pot food .") and are very yummy.

We also got a Broddie ( not sure how you spell that)which is a minced meat with great spices and egg custard on top. YUM!

Then home to our comfy beds and more rest.  When we arrived back at the hotel and stepped out onto the balcony here is what we saw.

By the time we were ready to go to bed, it looked like this:

Goodnight All,
Christine
